Watched Brother (2000, dir. Takeshi Kitano) today. First watch (& my first Kitano too). A gangster (played by Kitano) is exiled to America and starts his own crime family in L.A. .

A whole bunch of recognizable actors in this - Omar Epps of course, also James Shigeta, Tetsuya Watari, and Pat Morita (for a single shot). Score by Joe Hisaishi! A lot of abrupt, fast violence. Everybody's doomed from the beginning. Really enjoyed the ending.

I remember seeing this on the shelf at my local video store when it was new. Happy to have finally picked it up & taken it home (so to speak).

I guess this is my version of an end-of-year media wrap-up. I often forget to log things so my lists are spotty / incomplete. Still a fun exercise though.

I try to keep lists like this for books, movies/TV, and music purchases, even if I don't have anything interesting to say. (Stale takes, bad opinions, etc.).

I've been a little quiet here because I had a breakthrough over the last few weeks with my implementation of CPM-like movement in #quake1. I've got something that works much better now, though it's only compatible with FTEQW.

Every day I've found new bugs and then fixed them. Bugs in clientside movement prediction, bugs in the slidemove, etc. It's been consuming all my time.

I'll record a video of it soon, or maybe stream some gameplay. For now I've posted the code here:

Completed VtM:B and got my revenge against Ming Xiao for yesterday. To be fair I kind of cheesed my way through her fight (flamethrower). The rest of the ending was easy with some help from viewers.

Really love that game. It's rough around the edges, in some places unfinished even, but it's such a good time.

I do wish it had better (more consistent) audio mixing.
