Decksclaimer

I've heard from friends that this blog is starting to show up in search engine results, so I guess I should address the elephant in the room. In 2016 I spent some time thinking about how to responsibly host an online mix series and came to the following conclusions:

  • Be enthusiastic about the tracks,
  • don't accept money for the show,
  • provide detailed tracklists and show notes,
  • present music in mixed or altered form,
  • and always link back to where the music can purchased.

Movement Through Thought started in 2017 with those rules/goals in mind. I believe I've more-or-less upheld those points. (Notably I've never accepted money for mixes hosted here, and have no plans to do so in the future).

Also worth noting: my audio signal chain is pretty bad. It's all worn-out DJ gear leading to the line input on a PC motherboard. My setup adds an unfortunate amount of noise to all of these recordings.

Weareie put it better than I ever could in their decksclaimer (mirrored at archive.org):

The mixes featured on this website are produced and distributed in the spirit of promoting interest and further exploration of the music in question, and not for exploitation for profit or personal gain.

It's worth reading Weareie's decksclaimer in full at either of those links above. I agree with it completely.

To the artists out there: If your music was featured here that means I like it, I want people to know it exists, and I want people to buy it. If your work was included in one of these mixes and you're unhappy about it then please contact me at cvanderz@gmail.com so we can talk.

I've been watching tabletop RPG videos for like a month now. I started with LA By Night, caught up with that, and now I'm completely absorbed watching Critical Role's second campaign. It's getting me through some tough times.

It feels weird to not be DJing at the arcade this month. It's been years since we've taken a break. The show would've been tomorrow (the 25th).

My tracklist commentary process (and my writing process in general) seems to be:

1. wait until the last second
2. word vomit
3. delete all the bad parts
4. rework and edit what's left until I'm too tired to find it embarrasing
4. publish whatever remains (usually three paragraphs).

I am terrrrible at this.

I tend to retreat into fiction in difficult times, so the last few weeks I've been watching this video campaign of Vampire The Masquerade 5th edition called "LA By Night".

It's a difficult thing to describe. Part roleplaying game, part improv theater, part soap opera, and a few parts marketing for #vampirethemasquerade #VtM 5th Ed. . I've really enjoyed watching it.

The first three seasons are on youtube here:

Vampire: The Masquerade - L.A. By Night

Led by Storyteller Jason Carl of White Wolf Entertainment, L.A. By Night is a dark tale of personal horror and inhuman conspiracy that sees four vampires doi...

CW: covid-19, TP, panic

I walked to the grocery store today and bought a big box of tea. I was surprised to see the toilet paper aisle was mostly empty. I guess the panic has reached my little suburb.

Tracklist for last week's Movement Through Thought: djcev.com/2020/03/13/mtt-159

and at : anonradio.net/mtt-159-brain-di

Techno & dub techno around 128. Kind of a nonsense selection overall, but they're all tracks I like, so I guess that's fine. Features music by Bipolardepth, Bryan Zentz, Pheek, Maurizio, and Underworld.

Finally got around to posting the tracklist for last week's Movement Through Thought: djcev.com/2020/03/06/mtt-158

and at : anonradio.net/mtt-158-to-all-p

Fast techno, 130-140 BPM. A show comprised entirely of selections from the Ghost In The Shell PSX soundtrack and the two 2004 GITS Tribute CDs.

MTT 158 / To All Patrolling Air Units

MTT158 Spectrogram

Selections from the Megatech Body CD (AKA the Ghost In The Shell PSX soundtrack) and the two Ghost In The Shell Tribute albums from 2004. Fast techno, 130 to 140 BPM.

This mix is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it. (This particular selection is important to me and so it may become available again soon, if/when I re-visit and possibly re-record it).

Those CDs - Megatech Body and the two tribute albums - are such a neat piece of techno history. I know some of those artists contributed music specifically because they were fans of Ghost In The Shell.

I've been meaning to record that Ghost In The Shell PSX mix (or a version of it) since like 2007. It doesn't work as well as I'd like, and I let some things slip during that session, but I'm happy.

I'll be playing tracks from the 1997 Megatech Body CD (AKA the soundtrack to the Ghost In The Shell PSX game) and the two 2004 Ghost In The Shell Tribute albums.

Ooh, I was mistaken, that DVD set isn't the first three episodes of "Witch Hunter Robin", it's the entire show on three discs. In very bad video quality. Exciting.

Back from the city. Picked up a first US hardcover of "Random Acts Of Senseless Violence" by Jack Womack and a bootleg DVD set of the first three episodes of "Witch Hunter Robin".

Was a good day.

I'm having a weird week. I seem to be living on a combination of cheap black tea, Quake 3 Defrag, and back episodes of Vampire The Masquerade: L.A. By Night.

This will have to end soon.
