Lyrics of the second verse:

What is necessary to understand
Is how they think they've got our lives pre-programmed
To break their mold you must remember this key
Don't ever lose your sense of individuality

When they try to tell me how I should live
How much I can take and how much to give
Whatever tricks they use or catches they try
They can't stop me from living - my life is mine

I've come to realize over the last few years that talking about music and writing about music are two very different things.

I've spent a lot of time talking about music, mostly in bars and/or at shows, and I think I can do that fairly well. Writing about music on the other hand is terrifying and difficult. It feels so easy to express why I enjoy a song in person and so hard to do the same in writing.

Around one in every five times I look up a record I own on discogs I find out it's worth a bunch of money.

Was just looking up Dark Matter by Silicon Scally - I bought that new when it came out 15 years ago. Spent $13, now the used market on discogs is asking for way more.

I'm really glad that most of the albums I have are available digitally, and people don't have to fight collectors to be able to hear and purchase them.

I feel like I got a lot done today but looking back I can't remember what. I planned tomorrow's set and walked to the thrift store, that's about it.

I need to start reading again.

Incredibly happy and relieved to have working speakers again. (Due to having fixed my receiver earlier). Movies, music, background ambient sound... I was missing this. Makes me want to write music.

I thought I had fixed my Pioneer SX-650 receiver a few weeks ago with some deoxit... that only lasted about 12 hours. It turns out the real problem was a badly worn-out power switch. I've since read this is a common problem, the unfortunate "noble" switch.

So I spent this morning drilling a hole in a convenient spot in the receiver, mounting a new switch, and then wiring it in. Seems to work OK, and it should be as safe as it was before.

I slept through my usual mix publication time. Dangit. Got up at ~2 AM. Not a time I like waking up.

I think I fixed a flac playback problem on my dj equipment by adding a resample routine to the script I use to copy files to USB mass storage. Resampling down to 16bit/44.1khz now, if necessary. Will try doing this week's mix with flac files to test the changes

I've been meaning to do that for five years.

I woke up thinking about a ten-year-old video that featured a song from the mid-2000s by an American midwest triphop band. Couldn't remember the name of the video, couldn't remember the name of the song, couldn't remember the name of the band.

It took an hour but I figured it out. The q3 defrag video is McCormic's "Celestia":

RPG Limit Break 2020 didn't happen this year and I very much missed it, really glad to see QfG is taking up the slack. And Gliitchwiitch is great.
