So Baldur's Gate was really good. (In a surprise to no-one). Finished Siege of Dragonspear today, will be on to BG2 on Friday.
It does a fantastic job of capturing the precarity of low-level D&D and the gradual opening-up of options as you become more powerful. By mid- to end-game BG1 it's really cooking. So many options. (There usually is a right choice, an optimal strategy, but a suboptimal one will often do just fine).
I think the game's setup and story are commenting on or questioning the "murderhobo" style of gameplay. I think that's part of the reason the protagonist is a child of Bhaal. That may be me reading too much into it, though. I don't know. I feel like there's something there but it's out of my reach.
Anyway. Incredible game. Couldn't put it down.
