It's last Wednesday, which means DJ Megaphysics and I are playing music at Ground Kontrol tonight. Free play arcade, music from 9 PM until close, 21 and over, $7 at the door.

I've packed a bunch of downtempo, instrumental hip-hop, and big beat. I know Megaphysics is bringing Florida breaks and faster underground stuff.

"Spring breaks". Should be a fun time.

Late night tea.

I'm digging through old downtempo and breakbeat releases for a show tomorrow. I left it up to the last second, unfortunately. Won't have much time to practice.

*sigh*. 2019-03-22, not 2018. I mistyped there. Not worth deleting and reposting.

Just finished reading "Babel-17" by Samuel R. Delany.

I'm a fan of Delany, but this is my first time through Babel-17. It's amazing. Sometimes a swashbuckling pulp sci-fi adventure, sometimes an exploration of language (esp. linguistic relativity, sapir-whorf). I really loved it.

I've got the Vintage trade paperback edition that includes "Empire Star", so I'll read that next.

I'm watching Bryonato's speedrun of Titanfall 2 at Calithon. I'm amazed at the game's movement. It's the first big budget FPS with complex movement I've seen in... 10 years? Since Mirror's Edge.

The game would be better with q2 doublejumps and q3 wall clipping, though. That'd smooth it out.

Spring forward, fall back... still surprising me days later.

I managed to get an old rackmount spring reverb unit working. Plugged it into my DJ mixer's aux send / return; sounds great. The controls are too scratchy to use, though.

Dub techno tonight. But first it's tea time.

The band on my second pair of RP-HTX7 headphones broke a few days ago. The first pair had other problems, so tonight I got to swap parts between them to yield one working pair of headphones.

Frankenheadphones.

I'm sad that Panasonic discontinued the RP-HTX7s. They're great to work on.

And now I'm rocking out to the Project A-Ko soundtrack.

I guess I'm on a nostalgia trip tonight.

Phantasm is my favorite horror movie.

The pacing is perfect. And the editing. And the performances. And the story - the two brothers, their relationship.

It still scares me. I love almost everything about it.

Screengrab from Phantasm (1979) from the beginning of the movie, picturing Jody walking towards Morningside Cemetery.

MTT 105 / Unfinished Business

MTT105 Spectrogram

Ambient, downtempo, and weird stuff this week. Winding down from DJing at the arcade last night.

This episode’s recording did not stop when the show did, so unfortunately it ended up being nine hours long. One hour of MTT, eight hours of robot DJ Kumata. It's still available here, or linked as the spectrogram above.

This show (like most of MTT Year 3) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.
