Notebook 5

Posting to celebrate another full notebook. #5, photographed and ready to be stored on the shelf.

This one contains show notes for MTT and personal notes covering 2020/09 thru 2022/07. Ran out of ballpoint pens halfway through, switched back to mechanical pencil. The pages alternate between mix notes and a diary, a log of daily events.

Always happy to fill a notebook.

I'm really glad that obs-studio is in the FreeBSD ports tree (and that it's available as a compiled package). It's a great tool, opens up a lot of possibilities.

I beat Super Metroid on stream way faster than I expected so I spent a few minutes testing PSX emulation and then played about 90 minutes of the old dungeon crawl SNES game Arcana.

It seems like PSX emulation + live video encoding on my CPU will work if I lower the priority of some processes, particularly my web browser.

Played up to the fight with Ridley in Lower Norfair on stream today. I'll come back tomorrow and finish the game.

Streaming Super Metroid was a good test to see if my computer can handle SNES emulation plus realtime video encoding on the CPU. It can, but just barely. There were occasional glitches that I might be able to solve with some scheduler tweaks.

Completed Alkaline 1.1. Really awesome mod. Visuals, gameplay, everything. I played it on normal difficulty this time; next I'll have to try hard.

The last map I played today in particular, "Overengineering Mania" by Mazu & Greenwood, was very creative. It was a bit like a Metroidvania in that there were several items that granted movement abilities that opened up new areas of the map. It took me around an hour to beat.
