MTT153 Spectrogram

100 BPM beats for a tired Thursday night. This mix includes one F-bomb at the 30 minute mark, during Viktor Vaughn (MF Doom)'s rap. I guess that makes this one PG-13. Consider your surroundings when listening. (In other words: may or may not be appropriate for work. Depends on where you work.)

Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix.

This post was updated on 2020/10/18.

  1. Mikron / Embers 00:00
  2. Ben Businovski / Re-evaluation 04:30
  3. Seal Bient / Structure Of Phantoms 07:26
  4. Reedale Rise / X-K 09:53
  5. Boards Of Canada / In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country 13:00
  6. Depeche Mode / Cover Me (Alt Out) 16:30
  7. Takeshi Muto / Muto Love 19:47
  8. Push Button Objects / Striffle 23:06
  9. Prefuse 73 / Point To B 26:23
  10. Viktor Vaughn / Raedawn 29:03
  11. Aaron Spectre / Voices 31:38
  12. Mikron / Aldergrove 35:55
  13. Secret Frequency Crew / Ghost In The Bayou 39:43
  14. Funky Technicians / Ninja (Essence Of Time Remix) 42:32
  15. Lionrock / Rock Steady Romance 44:49
  16. Tipper / Minimal Thoughts Of Reason 48:35
  17. T.Power / Postcards From Pluto 51:12
  18. Aroma Nice / Lo 56:34

Two tracks by Mikron feature in this mix: #1 Embers and #12 Aldergrove. Both are from the excellent album Severance on CPU Records. Severance is a nicely varied album, slower in tempo than is typical for electro, more relaxed. It works well as an album, too: I'm happy listening to it straight through, beginning to end. Thumbs up for Severance, give it a listen at the link above.

Another standout here is Muto Love by Takeshi Muto from the Lily Of The Valley comp on Schematic. The rest of that comp is good too, and is definitely worth picking up. I'm sure I'll be playing parts of it over the coming months.

Not too much more to say about this one; all these tracks are good. If something strikes your fancy here consider supporting the artist(s) at the links above. I'll be back next week with something fast.

It's pretty funny that we both played Electronome's V = for Viewlexx. Go figure that the one time we step on each other it's with an old Electronome track. We had a good laugh about that after the show.

Thanks to everybody who hung out and listened to the music, and thanks as always to Ground Kontrol for having us. Shoutout to DJ Popcorn for talking shop past midnight.

MTT135 Spectrogram

Some post-arcade head-nodding music. Downtempo beats, IDM, and four old tracker mods.

This show (like most of MTT Year 3) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.

This post was updated on 2020/10/05.

  1. Journeyman / Latneiro (Woob's Sunrise Dub) 00:00
  2. Coco Bryce / We Can Have It Yeh 05:02
  3. Gescom / Key Nell 1 06:46
  4. Antipop Consortium / Bubblz (Radio Edit) 09:21
  5. Metamatics / Dope Robot's Revenge 12:16
  6. Bola / Effaninor 15:40
  7. Solo / Animal Faze Dementia 19:58
  8. Darkhalo / Manga Starlight 24:03
  9. Brian Eno / Ali Click 30:44
  10. Funkymuskrat / Odyssey 34:41
  11. Byzar / Wyaxyz 37:56
  12. Eon / Void Dweller 42:43
  13. Voigt Kampff / Understand 46:39
  14. Ko Lute / Nobody Better Bother The King 50:11
  15. RS3 / Among The Fallen 52:44
  16. Aphex Twin / Untitled [SAW II #7 "Curtains"] 57:48

Tracks 7, 10, and 14 are all tracker mods from the netlabel Hellven. I wrote a post about Hellven for this blog last year, so go check that out. RS3's Among The Fallen is my favorite of the three, I like the snappiness of it and the classic RS3 basses and pads. (Darkhalo's Manga Starlight is the fourth tracker mod in this mix, and is also excellent.)

This selection doesn't hold together as well as I'd like, and there's a few obvious mistakes (I forgot Ko Lute's Nobody Better Bother The King changes tempo...). But: these tunes are good, and it was a fun way to wind down after playing the arcade. Any time I manage to play music by Eno I'm happy.

MTT 131 / Harmonical Sound

MTT131 Spectrogram

Closing out bass month with 90 BPM Miami bass, electro, and some lazy DJ-ing.

This show (like most of MTT Year 3) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.

This post was updated on 2020/10/05.

  1. Bass Society / Prelude 00:00
  2. Beat Dominator / Music's Hypnotizing 01:21
  3. 2 Live Crew / Ghetto Bass 05:04
  4. MC Shy D / It's Just My Caddy (Vocal) 09:39
  5. Gucci Crew II / Gucci Bass 12:45
  6. M-4 Sers / Leave Me Alone 18:43
  7. Iceman Ja / Dead Or Alive 22:38
  8. Bass 305 / Digital Dreams (Mid Tempo Digital Bass Version) 27:27
  9. Dagobert / On The Run (Dreamix) 32:21
  10. Headnoaks / Ice Crystal Lattice 35:01
  11. Bass Society / Bass Society 39:59
  12. Bass 305 / Hip Hop Groove (Sample Symphomovement 305) 42:50
  13. Dynamix II / Purple Beats [Color Beats] 45:54
  14. Aux 88 / Fly By Night 49:11
  15. Dynamix II / Give It To Em 54:41
  16. Dynamix II / Addicted To Bass 59:23

I don't have too much to say about this selection - it's exactly what it looks like. Some car audio bass from Bass 305, Bass Society, Beat Dominator, and Dynamix II. Proper Miami bass (complete with rapping!) from 2 Live Crew, MC Shy D, Gucci Crew II, M-4 Sers, and Iceman Ja. Then a few odd pieces to glue it together. (Including the excellent Fly By Night by Aux 88, the final track on Bass Magnetic).

This is a very lazy set - most of these tracks are played from beginning to end - but the music is good, so maybe I can be excused. There is one rude edit at 55:54, done to make Give It To Em longer so I wouldn't need to play another track. I've got some recent purchases queued up to play next week (and next month), so check back for that.

(Yes, I did play Listen To The Music by Techmaster P.E.B. twice. My mistake, I wasn't paying attention. It's sort of funny in retrospect.)

Lots of good music here; 86 tracks in under five hours. We were both moving at a pretty good pace. Most of my set was drawn from this month's MTT radio shows. Megaphysics played a lot of stuff I'd never heard before, I believe he's been digging for bass out in the shops in PDX.

Thanks once again to everybody hanging out and listening, and to Ground Kontrol for having us.
