I'm DJing at Ground Kontrol in Portland, Oregon tonight. 9 PM 'till close. The games are set to Free Play tonight, so there's a $5 cover.

I'm going to take it easy and play stuff I've been doing on the radio this month.

Old tracker mods. Chiptune, demoscene, doskpop. I play this style about once a year, always right around my birthday, to get it out of my system. I'm pretty happy with this one.

I"ll be DJing on aNONradio in about 30 minutes.

One week every December I pull out my collection of old tracker mods and have a party. This is that week, and that's what I'm doing tonight.

Chiptune, demostyle, some later IDM-y .its, and music by some old friends of mine.

Fantastic talk/discussion on Drexciya from a gallery event in Dublin:

Just popped up on reddit's /r/electro. Listening now, super interesting, a great overview of Stinson & Donald's work.

Sad about the train derailment between Seattle and Portland. That's a trip I've taken myself, Amtrak from Union Station in PDX up to Seattle (and back). It was a nice trip, and affordable (10 years ago, anyway).

From reading articles it seems they just changed the route to one that's faster but less safe. Maybe not a good idea...

I've spent the day rendering old tracker mods (.mod, .s3m, .xm, .it, etc...) to .wav. It really sucks.

Made worse by the fact that I know it doesn't sound right unless you use the original software (and, in some cases, the original hardware) used to compose the song.

Necrotech, Nanoshock

Necrotech, Nanoshock books

Necrotech by K.C. Alexander. Angry Robot Books, 2016.
Nanoshock by K.C. Alexander. Angry Robot Books, 2017.

Filthy, angry, and a lot of fun. "Profane & Proud" is written on the back of Nanoshock, and they mean it. Reads like a great Cyberpunk 2020 campaign. That's maybe unfair - there's a lot more going on in these books than in your average game of CP2020 - but it's the comparison that immediately comes to mind.

I'm a fan.

Posting because I've just started Nanoshock.

A good selection of music tonight. Detroit techno & electro, an old new wave / synthpop tune, some modern detroit-y electro. Drexciyan stuff.

Had a fun show tonight. "Fun" meaning good music but a few bad decisions.

I'm a bit too tired to write up the tracklist right now; I'll do that tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a link to a recording of the show:

I'll be DJing live on aNONradio in approximately 30 minutes.

I've lined up a bunch of Gerald Donald and Gerald Donald-alike stuff for tonight.

I'm a bit sick still (a pesky cold), but hopefully the show still turns out OK.

I've been sick all day (a cold, flirting with a fever). So I've been watching episodes of Liquid Television.

Love it. So wildly creative. It's somehow even more weird than I remember. And it's exactly what I needed right now.

I've seen Jimmy Page and Robert Plant live. In 1995, I think. Jones might have been with them; I'm not sure. They were on tour for the album "No Quarter", and I saw them at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland Oregon.

Changed my life.

I've been to a lot of concerts. Seen a lot of '70s and '80s rock, and a lot of '00s electronic acts. Nothing has topped the charisma of Page & Plant.

Consummate perfomers.

Massive sleep debt.

Watching the 2003 Led Zeppelin DVD.

Drinking.

I will be paying for this later. Tomorrow, most likely.
