The first release I'd like to highlight in this is Pearson Sound's
Alien Mode EP, released a couple of months ago on the great
Hessle Audio. I like the title track Alien Mode a lot, a
breaks workout with some fun vocal distortion (timestretching?). It shows
up here near the end of the hour. There's a very good tune on the B-side
of the EP too which I'll probably play in a few weeks.
Immediately after Alien Mode is Low Orbit Satellite's
Objects In Space from their album Objects In Space.
I spent an afternoon about six months
ago going through the releases on Low Orbit Satellite's bandcamp, and I
think Objects In Space is my favorite. It's four strong trancey electro
tracks and one ambient dub techno track, very much my thing.
Tracks 7 through 10 form a little future garage segment. I don't know
much about the style and only have a few tracks (most of it sounds like
Burial's Untrue to me) but I enjoy it and it's fun to play every now
and then. Mixing future garage is a challenge, one I haven't practiced
much, so that segment is maybe a little rocky.
That's all the commentary for #184 I have in me. I'll be back next week
with something slower, returning to my usual trend of reducing tempo
through the month.
Blogariddims, DJ Mix Series and Podcast

I was thinking I don't write enough, so here's a little something
about what is probably my favorite series of DJ mixes.
Quoting Droid from the Blogariddims Top 50 post, who
puts it better than I could:
For those that don't know, Blogariddims is a fortnightly inter-blog
podcast which was started in June 2006, with the aim of showcasing
the high level and variety of selecting, mixing and writing talent
in the small corner of the music blogosphere inhabited by nuumskulls,
faded-junglists, genre-nerds and bass addicts of every stripe.
I love Blogariddims. The combination of stellar music selection, top
mixing, and track-by-track analysis is fantastic. The enthusiasm, too -
you can hear the affection for each track, and read that same affection
in the show notes.
Most influential on me are the dubstep and electronica mixes.
Several of these DJs were in the right place at the right time to observe
the creative explosion of dubstep, and were bold enough to link it with
some of its less obvious influences. I'm thinking specifically of number
49, Dubtronics.
The series concluded in October 2008 with #50, Terminus. Two years
and 50 great episodes. The complete index of mixes can be found at the
Blogariddims Top 50 post on weareie.com. Here are my picks, a short
list of the entries I often return to:
I strongly recommend these mixes. And make sure to read the blog
posts that come with them; they're consistently informative and well
written. MTT is, in many ways, my attempt to emulate Blogariddims and the
Blogamuffins.
Dub techno, electro, future garage. Wandering through a few different styles
in this show.
This show (like most of MTT Year 3) is no longer available for download
here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of
this page if you want a copy of it.

- Pangaea / Router 44:37
- Scuba / Negative 49:06
- Hajimari / Finally Free 54:13
- Manu Shrine / Sediment 56:36
This is a mix in three segments. T++ (AKA Torsten Pröfrock)'s track
Aquatic starts things off with a rainy mood; that's my favorite from the
first 20 minutes. Hadamard's Currents (Arctic) is my pick from the second
segment, from his relatively recent Flux EP. From the last six tracks, I'll
highlight Scuba's Negative for its clear dub-techno sound.
I enjoy UK garage (2-step, and the styles it has influenced), but my knowledge
and selection is limited. The Burial-like strain of future garage
is particularly cool, represented here by Ghostek, Hajimari, and
Manu Shrine. I'm glad to have run back about 20 minutes of it this week.
This one's pretty good. Good enough, anyway. Shoutout and thanks to DRXT
for the sweet dub techno track; see you down at the arcade soon, friend.
