DJ Megaphysics and I played our regular show at
Ground Kontrol Arcade last night! I took the opening
slot, and played a bunch of electro and hiphop. My list:
Two solid sets! Five hours of good music. Thanks to Ground Kontrol
for having us, and to everybody hanging out and listening. Additional
thanks to DJ 808, DJ Megaphysics, A., and Z. for keeping me company at
the end of the night.
DJ Megaphysics and I played our regular show at
Ground Kontrol last night. No theme this time, just selecting
music we've been listening to over the month.
Megaphysics opened the night with some house-y and wave-y music,
on the slower end of things. His set here features a couple of
nice Twin Peaks references; see if you can spot them. Here's his
tracklist:
I played the latter half of the night, running back a combination
of my recent radio shows. Electro, IDM, and Synthwave, accelerating
into a little Dubstep at the end. Here's my list:
Finally, Megaphysics got in one last track to close the night.
I like to imagine that in some alternate universe this (or
perhaps some other KLF song) was on the Twin Peaks soundtrack.
This week: a mixture of Dutch electronic music (Bunker, Creme, Viewlexx) and
bits of electro and synthpop. Less Dutch electronic than I expected to play,
come to think of it.

My current favorite here is Emails 2 Myself by Solitary Dancer.
Released by Dark Entries last year, I just got around to picking it up
this month. All four of Solitary Dancer's releases so far are fantastic. Each
is unique, too, which I appreciate.
This went better than expected! A bit uneven though. In retrospect a track
or two should have played longer, and maybe one or two could have been swapped
out. It was a fun time and the tracks are good; that's what matters.
A repeat of MTT073 and chunks of MTT072. Lazy, but I was tired,
so I reached for something fresh in my mind. Glass & Spiders goes really
well with Caro's Crystal Castle; that's an idea worth exploring for
a future set.
Disco. House? Another CBS-inspired show. Right-click save-as here or on the spectrogram above to download the mix

The bit in the middle - Vuelo,
The Invite,
Not Phazed
- is a weird little house aside. I'm not sure it works, but that's OK; it
changes up the sound nicely. The Omar-S track in
particular is really good.
There's a sloppy transition or two, and a few of the tracks could be swapped
out for something more suitable, but then that's always true of my sets. I had
a great time mixing these tunes again; can't ask for more than that.
Disco, techno, electro. Some jams this week.

The Strange City - Virtual Origami 2 - Photographic Photogenic segment is a neat
little Gerald Donald-ian
diversion in the middle of this mix. It's pointed out on the discogs page
for Blackploid's Inhaltsverzeichnis EP
that Photographic Photogenic sounds a lot like Virtual Origami 2; the commenter
was right, and it makes for a nice (and very quick) little mix.
All of the old "real" disco tracks included here (Remember, Moskow Diskow,
arguably Sharevari) are unauthorized bootlegs. It still surprises me that
something so difficult to manufacture as vinyl gets bootlegged that way.
Private Life
is one that made it into the shops when I was actively buying records in ~2007.
It's one of my favorites. Private Lives, the artist, turns out to be Cylob & Ed
DMX. (According to discogs, anyway).
Finally, My Radio by Solvent. From the second of the three Disco Nouveau
records, which I've mentioned before. I'll
say again: that compilation is extremely good. This mix includes two other
tracks from it, Lost Angles and They Keep Dancing. But My Radio takes the
prize. A song of loss and disappointment direct at a radio. Look up the lyrics!
