MTT100 Spectrogram

This show (like most of MTT Year 2) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.

  1. ASC / Oceanography 00:00
  2. Fracture / Sound Spectrum '96 05:14
  3. Nebula / Frame Of Reference 08:16
  4. Enjoy ft. Paolo Corsini / Jellyfishes Leave Me Indifferent 13:10
  5. Parallel / Into The Deep End 17:41
  6. Infest / Peaceful Tree 22:56
  7. Moreno / Alone 26:40
  8. Dissident / Universe Eat Universe 30:35
  9. Brad Impact / Everything I Left Behind 35:37
  10. R.M / Tanuki 38:58
  11. Equinox / Your Love's So Cold 43:30
  12. Sileni / Bouncing Octagonal Fragments (Macc Remix) 48:35
  13. Nebula / Encounters VIP 51:24
  14. Spotless / She Showed, She Smiled 56:51

As mentioned, 10 of these tracks were released by the Irish drum & bass label Subtle Audio. Everything except tracks 6, 7, 10, and 14. I'd say just about everything on the label is good. Lots of interesting drum programming. It's run by DJ Code, and I've got to give credit to him for the transition from Your Love's So Cold to Bouncing Octagonal Fragments to Encounters, something he did on the Subtle Audio Vol. II mix. (Though I did mix up the track order a little bit).

Tracks 6 and 7, Peaceful Tree and Alone respectively, are both from the free netlabel Digibeat Music. Active from about 2006 to 2013, they released a series of drum & bass releases, including several by artists that also appeared on the Subtle Audio compilations. (Eschaton, Jason oS, Parallel, Relapse, [sub].) Digibeat's back catalog is available for download through their blog, and the label Omni Music seems to have picked up where they left off.

Finally: shoutout and thanks to Ryan Organ, who sold me the first Subtle Audio vinyl comp when he was working at Anthem Records. His recommendation was perfect; I've been following the label since.

MTT099 Spectrogram

Electro, house and techno this week. Leaning on tracks that are easier to follow - kicks on 1 and 3, similar to MTT093.

This show (like most of MTT Year 2) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.

  2. Sbles3plex / Volem Plastics 02:54
  3. Elecktroids / Algorithm 07:12
  4. NRSB-11 / Market Forces 10:19
  5. DMX Krew / Heisenberg 14:13
  6. MNLTH / Flektro 17:28
  7. Krell / Level 2 20:09
  8. Orgue Electronique / Near The Threshold 22:23
  9. Omar-S / Miss You 25:47
  10. Marco Bernardi / The Burning Love Ensemble 28:47
  11. Raiders Of The Lost Arp / Module Detach 32:08
  12. Datassette / Musique Gélatineuse 35:08
  13. Kovyazin D & Moralez / The Night Watch 38:46
  14. Solitary Dancer / Birth Of Saturn 42:31
  15. Datassette / Mannequin On The Run 46:19
  16. NRSB-11 / 685-471 1 50:37
  17. Danny Scrilla / Eclipse 55:11
  18. Danny Scrilla / Ancient Musical Box 58:16

I picked up Datassette's Mannequin On The Run EP a couple days ago and threw this set together as a way to play a few tracks from it. Those Datassette tracks are definitely the highlight this week. That and the two NRSB-11 tracks. And Elecktroids' Algorithm, Sbles3plex' Volem Plastics, Solitary Dancer's Birth Of Saturn... better stop before I repeat the entire tracklist.

Volume levels are a bit uneven, and some of the mixing is wonky, but I'm happy. This is a good episode 99.

MTT098 Spectrogram

A little old Rephlex and Warp this week, plus some breaks, electro, and IDM to fill out the show.

This show (like most of MTT Year 2) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.

  1. Rising Sun / Ocean View 00:00
  2. Lone Shark / Float 6.3 01:58
  3. Plaid / Yak 06:21
  4. Metamatics / Man-q-Neons 10:22
  5. SCSI-9 / Silkworm 16:33
  6. Atypic / Jolly 20:10
  7. Reedale Rise / Eisrous 22:54
  8. Higher Intelligence Agency / Pinkgreen 26:42
  9. B12 / Bio Dimension 32:46
  10. LFO / Freeze 36:42
  11. Future Sound Of London / Omnipresence 39:47
  12. Caustic Window / Squidge In The Fridge 44:31
  13. Lastrapink / CHCINO 47:35
  14. D'Arcangelo / Sundart 50:47
  15. Creta Kano / Skyway Motel 53:51
  16. Speedy J / The FUN Equations 56:11

Every December I listen to Plaid's Android EP, Metamatics' Mind Mushing Git, and the Traffic II compilation on Combination Records. Those three albums inspired this selection... lots of old Rephlex and Warp, as I said above.

This was thrown together pretty quickly, a couple hours before broadcast. It works well enough, I think. The Sundart to Skyway Motel to FUN Equations run is particularly cool. I've played the slower (81 BPM?) version of Skyway Motel before, during MTT083. I wish I had timed the ending of this show better, though.

MTT097 Spectrogram

Fast-ish noisy electro and IDM this week. Lots of zaps and zooms, delay and reverb.

  1. Azmotronik / Last One In For Breakfast 00:00
  2. Cultek / Construct 03:20
  3. Señor Frio / Barda 07:42
  4. 214 / Vocal Calisthenics 12:19
  5. Chromatix / Assembler 16:31
  6. Noyeahno / Outsiders 19:34
  7. Bitstream / Incubator 23:32
  8. Señor Frio / Hatjail 26:56
  9. Monolake / CCTV 31:15
  10. Bass Kittens / MFS_Root (Volum Remix) 35:17
  11. Nomadic / Alpha Phix (Andrea Parker Remix) 40:36
  12. Hydraulix / Xero - 1 (214's Binary Pop N Lock Mix) 43:21
  13. Volsoc / Try To Save Your Song (OK Robot) 48:00
  14. Snog / Real Estate Man (Sir Real's Persuasive Techniques Remix) 53:10
  15. Funkstörung / Oszillator 57:45

This mix features two tracks each from the labels Buried In Time, Digital Distortions, [k]racktroni[k], and Touchin' Bass. All great labels. Kracktronik and Touchin' Bass were favorites of mine in the 2000s. Buried In Time is a local Portland (OR) label releasing glitchy IDM music, challenging stuff.

The Hydraulix track included in this hour is a bonus remix available at their old blogspot site. The original track, Xero - 1, is from the 4 Pumps / 2 Dumps EP on Touchin' Bass. That's a fantastic EP, definitely worth seeking out.

First show of 2019! I could've mixed faster and worked in more music, but decided to take it easy. Was probably for the best. Good tunes in any case.
