MTT009 Spectrogram

Some Drum & Bass this week.

This show (like most of MTT Year 1) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.

This post was updated on 2020/10/05.

  1. Future Sound of London / Ill Flower
  2. Alpha Omega / Impulse
  3. CJ Weaver / Subway
  4. Cygnus26 / Process 1
  5. Macc / Wrong To Perfection
  6. Paradox / Rivet
  7. Soul Delay / Ustad
  8. Alpha Omega / Realism
  9. CJ Weaver / 6,000 Degrees
  10. Mindmapper & Fre4k / Fangtooth
  11. Earl Grey / Bermuda Triangulated
  12. Future Sound of London / Ill Flower (Machinedrum Remix)
  13. [NSF] Different Thoughts / In My Dreams
  14. Nebula / Encounters VIP

So this is mainly music from two labels: Subtle Audio and Digibeat Music. Both excellent experimental drum & bass labels, with some crossover in artists. The Subtle Audio compilations (Vol I-III) in particular are fantastic. That Machinedrum remix comes from an album called Pseudogeddon!, and is also very good.

Some weak mixing and track arrangement on display here. I'll have to revisit this at some point.

MTT No. 008 / A Man Inside The Boot

MTT008 Spectrogram

EBM & some aggressive Electro.

  1. DJ Technician / Intro
  2. Andrea Parker & David Morley / Early Days
  3. C.C.C.P. / American-Soviets (Vocal)
  4. Dynamik Bass System / Electronic
  5. TRV / Target Signal
  6. Hadamard / At The C1000
  7. Imatran Voima / Kurvi
  8. Ra-X / The Call
  9. Front Line Assembly / Vexation
  10. Equitant / Operative
  11. Front 242 / Headhunter (V1.0)
  12. Kill Memory Crash / Get Out
  13. Final Cut / The Prosecuted
  14. Li-Z / Soluzen
  15. Novamen / There's No Escaping

This was a fun one to mix. If there's a highlight here it's "Headhunter", which is still an awesome track ~30 years later. And "C.C.C.P. / American-Soviets", which seems to be about Reagen & Gorbachev playing chess as an alternative to nuclear war.

No connection issues this time, too!

MTT No. 007 / A Little Basic

MTT007 Spectrogram

Dub Techno this week. My connection to aNONradio dropped near the end of this mix, so, unfortunately, there's about 5 minutes worth of "Vitamin" by Kraftwerk shoved between the last two tracks. Because of that I'm not linking to the recording here; it can be found at (fished out of) the aNONradio archives.

  1. Alteria Percepsyne / Violet Detachment
  2. Seal Bient / Runout 02.02
  3. Ovatow / Permutation Two
  4. Ben Businovski / Communication Bridge
  5. Buntaro Toriyama / Dive Into Preparation
  6. JGarrett / Vaporizer (Kris Moon Remix)
  7. Sustainer / Monocromo_A
  8. W-Moon / Coo
  9. Phoboz / Kryostasis (Basic)
  10. Maurizio / M-4 B
  11. Maurizio / M-4 A
  12. Basic Channel / Quadrant Dub I
  13. Basic Channel / Quadrant Dub II
  14. Daniel Blomqvist / Delay
  15. Robert Hood / And Then We Planned Our Escape [126 BPM Shift]

Not a particularly deep selection. Some more Motorlab (carrying over from last week), some Thinner, a couple of proper Basic Channel classics, and a timestretched Robert Hood track to close it out.

  1. Gliese / Lost Civilization
  2. Komarken Electronics / Science Saved Us
  3. Plant43 / GJ 1214b
  4. Star-Kid / Star Seed
  5. E.R.P. / Ancient Light
  6. Gliese / Unknown Place
  7. Scape One / Cinematic
  8. Drøn / Atom 312
  9. Morphology / Dark Flow
  10. Koova / Click Track
  11. Userwave / I Sit and Dream
  12. E.R.P. / Eagle Nebula
  13. Gosub / The Rain Comes Down (Dcast Dynamics Remix)
  14. Plant43 / Wounding Words
  15. Drexciya / C To The Power Of X + C To The Power Of X = MM = Unknown

Strong tracks here. To highlight a few selections... that Gliese release on Motorlab is free and very good. Likewise that Userwave album; unfortunately it seems to have disappeared from the internet along with the rest of the Xynthetic Netlabel. But really it's all about ERP, Morphology and Plant43.

I got greedy at the end and tried to jam some Drexciya into this, unfortunately. It didn't work. At all. Lesson(s) learned: pay attention to the clock, and don't be greedy.

Odin Photon Space Sailer Starlight

Odin: Photon Space Sailer Starlight, 1985. Taped off the Sci-Fi channel some time in the '90s. Subsequently copied and recopied; screenshots below are from a digital recording of a beat up EP mode VHS tape.

Concert on the Bridge Feels Like A Typhoon
Odin Awaits You

An infamously bad movie with some beautiful visuals. Remembered as a boring rehash of ideas and imagery better presented in Space Battleship Yamato. Features a couple of songs ("Gotta Fight", "Odin") by Loudness.

See the Anime World Order podcast for a great discussion of this movie (and how terrible it is).
