I will be live on aNONradio in ~30 minutes.

I played my regular show at Ground Kontrol yesterday, so I'm super tired today. That means lazily mixed dub tonight.

Tune in at anonradio.net/ .

There's a Quake 3 CPMA Beginners Duel Cup going on today. Mixture of stock and kenya maps. Nekon is streaming it right now at twitch.tv/nekontv. Expect some swearing.

If I'd known the cup was open to american players I might've signed up. Will have to keep a look out for the next one.

This one's pretty similar to the music I used to listen to, buy and DJ back when I was in high school. Which is a little embarrasing to think about.

It was fun to revisit these songs and mix them again. I hope everybody who happens to listen enjoys them too. Even if they all sound a bit worn out.

Going to mash together some old breakbeat and big beat stuff. I think I'm missing some important pieces of that style, so it might sound a bit scatterbrained. We'll see how it goes.

Tune in at anonradio.net/ .

MPV 0.26 has hit FreeBSD ports, just upgraded. A few observations:

dvdnav seems to be working much better.

Replaygain functionality has been restored (using the --replaygain-* set of options).

And... I get errors when using the OSS audio output driver under FreeBSD. "[ao/oss] Audio device returned broken buffer state" spammed continuously. The message can be suppressed with "--msg-level=ao/oss=fatal". I wonder what that's about...

Stanton SCS.4DJ Notes & Review

The SCS.4DJ is a "Digital DJ Mixstation" made by Stanton Magnetics. It's a little standalone workstation unit with a "Coldfire" ARM (ARM10TDMI?) board in it that runs Linux (2.6.14?) and a custom set of DJ software. The unit seems to have been engineered, both hardware and software, by a company called IVL Audio. The current equivalent product, functionality-wise, would be something like the Pioneer XDJ-RX.

Content warning for this mix: it's probably not one for the kids. I don't think there's any swearing, but there's quite a bit of grunting & moaning (in the style of Kraftwerk's "Tour De France").

Was an OK mix. I could use more practice with these records.

"A million freaks, huh, that's all I need".

MTT No. 020 / A Million Freaks

MTT020 Spectrogram

Somewhat messily mixed west-coast electro this week.

There's quite a bit of grunting and moaning in this recording, and what sounds like sampled porn dialog in one song, so be advised this one probably isn't safe for the kids.

This show (like most of MTT Year 1) is no longer available for download here. Get in touch with me at the email address listed at the top of this page if you want a copy of it.

I will be live on aNONradio in ~30 minutes. I've dug up my Egyptian Lover, Arabian Prince and Unknown DJ for tonight. I like to think of this as the "west coast electro" sound. Expect a lot of grunting.

Went music shopping today... using my web browser.

Picked up digital copies of:

"Optical" by Nullptr
"Inspiring Memories" by Andrew Red Hand.
"Living In Unity" by Smith & Mighty.
"Pounding System" by Dub Syndicate.
"Liquid Earth" and "The Beckoning / Skyland" by Arcon 2.

And that's my music budget for the month.

So I'm finally getting around to recording my 2x12" copy of "Vegas" by The Crystal Method. I look it up on discogs and see that the vinyl hasn't been reprinted since 1997. Look up at the price and... egads.

It's selling for about 10x what I paid for it.

I'm not sure if that's sellers on discogs being unreasonable, or if the record is really that scarce / desirable. Color me surprised in any case.
